I departed hospitality shortly before closing so I did not have the opportunity to chase people out of the room. I wanted to shower and change. This would allow plenty of time for me to do makeup prior to the banquet.
I wore a blue gown to the banquet. I have not been able to find a picture of me in it. The photos I took that evening did not turn out. It was not the most stellar outfit but it was simple and appropriate. I did get many compliments, thank you girls.
We had a panoramic photo again this year. I had a couple of glasses of wine before we were allowed in for dinner. That may have been a mistake but I knew it was going to be over soon and I was drowning my sorrows.
For dinner we had beef and salmon. My wife has some issues with fish. A couple of years ago she had a few small pieces and later that evening we were in the emergency room due to an asthma attack. I took her salmon and gave her my beef. The salmon was “over cooked” by most standards. Perhaps it was a bit because it was a little dry. I like mine to be more done than not. It was the best meal of the weekend.
After dinner we had a live band. I did a little dancing but not much. The alcohol was starting to take effect. I had a couple more glasses of wine before we returned to the hotel. I assumed we would do like last year and take over a corner of the lobby. The “Makeup Artist” had other plans though, she wanted to go clubbing.
It took a while but we finally got started. My “bride” had changed and was wearing a “belly dancing” top, which is about as racy as she gets. I remained in the gown I wore to dinner. I suppose I had a chance to change into that one outfit I did not wear. Chris was driving, Makeup Artist had a birthday coming up and instigated the trip, and we were also joined by Sara.
We were on our way to a lesbian club. Temptations, is loud on Saturday night. Loud may be an understatement. I was in pretty bad shape from everything I drank earlier that evening. I was being careful how much I drank because of that. I still have a good memory of the evening which is a good thing. I had two beers there, well I had ordered two I did not finish the second before we departed.
We ran into the nail tech and her girlfriend there. We also ran into the two bartenders we had in hospitality that afternoon. We had a great time. I am still not sure why the police had to show up. I noticed a squad car when I had stepped out for a smoke.
The decision was then made to go to Hunters. There has been a problem with people such as myself showing up there. My drivers license does not have a female photo on it. I have never obtained a state ID with a female photo either. If your ID does not look like the gender you are presenting they have been turning people away. The parking lot was almost empty and the decision was made not to enter.
We stopped at IHop to get something to eat. I had an omelet and a couple of cups of decaf coffee. We got back to the hotel around 4:30, we still had to get up in the morning to pack up the Coffee Shop and Spa. Tomorrow was going to be “fun”.

Saturday part I
My bride awoke before me. She had a 10:00 appointment with the nail tech. I told them both I would be paying. My bride went through registration and nails had been completed before I came down. I showered did my makeup and dressed in a white blouse and a pink print skirt. When I put the blouse on I had smeared makeup onto it. Nuts! Oh well, now I do not have to worry about it getting dirty. I did my normal routine of heading over to the Coffee Shop. Before we knew it, it was time for lunch.
Lunch was alright but again nothing to talk about. I met some wonderful people there. It turns out some of them live close to me. I was able to get contact information and hope to be able to keep in touch. Before the presentation my wife headed out, she wanted to get some exercise in and there is a fitness center in the hotel.
Instead of another boring speech there was an interesting discussion regarding the experiences of two people that had transitioned from male to female. I had considered walking out because this really does not apply to me. I found the discussion interesting though. In the gender spectrum I am at a different place and I do not desire to take it further. They talked about going from “him”, identifying as a crossdresser, all the way through complete transition. In my case, I do not know if I will ever go so far as permanent hair removal on my face.
I have great respect for both of them. One for their life experiences and the fact they were willing to share that with us. That seems like some very personal stuff to talk to 200 people about. I don’t know if I took anything away from it or not. I do know I gained much respect for the two of them.
After lunch I returned to the “spa” to pay for the manicure and pedicure my wife had. Taylor had glued some nails on and was having difficulty with the length. I do not know what the problem was; some of my nails are that long. Not the middle finger, both hands I had cracked and ripped the nails. Taylor had the nails removed (I do not think she had purchased the glue remover).
While she was having that done she had a “Taylor moment” as we like to call it. Apparently she had done her toe nails as well and was not too happy with how the job turned out and wished to have it touched up. While her nails were being done she had asked “would you like to make some money?” As if that was not bad enough, when it was time to do her toes she tried to put her leg up on the table where her finger nails were done (that is just as I entered the room).
First the nail tech said words to the effect of no honey go sit in the chair over there (the heavy one I brought in). I gave Taylor a piece of my mind about it as well. I told her that is why it is there. We were all laughing. I thought I was going to have to have my makeup touched up because I was laughing so hard. I almost had tears from the laughter. I am so glad Taylor has such a wonderful sense of humor about herself.
By “bride” had returned from her workout and we wandered around a bit before heading up to hospitality. My bride had wished to help as well. They had things “covered”. I had wanted to help more. I felt like I had not done enough. They “let me off too easy”. That is how the group is though, this being my second Be-All and the fact that my wife had just arrived they wanted us to just relax.

Friday part II
The seminar I had to attend was an hour and a half after we got out of lunch. I killed time wandering around and chatting with friends. I then went back to my room showered and shaved. I went too close in a couple of places. I went back down in a flowing pink dress that I wore to a “T” party a couple of months ago. Now the scary part is I did not wear makeup this time.
I went back to her shop. Taylor was sitting in the area with one of her friends. She had won a raffle. What I did not realize when she first said it was the fact that she won a free Be-All registration for next year. I was so happy for her! She is such a wonderful person and I do not think anyone is more deserving.
It was time to move on to the seminar. I had told my “Makeup Artist” about Taylor. We tried to convince her she had to attend the seminar but she was still “overwhelmed”, I think she did not want to attend any seminars. There is nothing wrong with that, I was attending this one so I could be a “dummy” for makeup application. It would be the only seminar I attended. On the way to the seminar I was told that the dress I was wearing would be perfect for what she had been planning.
We had trouble “kicking” people out of the room. I had experience doing that in Hospitality but not in seminars. I almost entered the room and told them “time is up, the next seminar is scheduled to start now”. We finally got in there. No PowerPoint presentation this time. About 15 minutes into the presentation I was called to the front of the class. My “bravery”, for not wearing makeup, was noted.
She went with the powder mineral makeup, like she had last year when I had a makeover before the banquet on Saturday. There was a great deal of talk about makeup brushes. How to use them and how to care for them also. I think the best advice she gave was the fact the best thing we could do is just sit down with our makeup and brushes and practice. I guess it is similar to real estate (location, location, location) she told us “practice, practice, practice”. Also, do not do it on a night that we are planning on going out.
She is a “ROCKSTAR”. I have learned so much from her in the year I have known her it is beyond belief. She had commented that I would not require beard cover (“whore” red lipstick mixed with yellow concealer) due to the close shave. The next step was foundation, she took the opportunity to talk about how the talc in the powder foundations help stop the bleeding from the knick of such a close shave. She had put the foundation on “heavy” in the two locations. It worked fairly well, I looked much better when the excess was brushed off.
She was going for a more subtle look. Not the “typical” Be-All look or a “drag queen” look. Next was blush, which was applied to the “apples of my cheeks” and upwards along the jaw line She had applied black mascara to my eye lashes. Black eyeliner to top eye lid, from the center to the outer edge.
She had asked the class a question (a trick question in my opinion): “What color of eye shadow should a person with blue eyes wear?” For those of you who have not noticed, I have blue eyes and I knew the answer. I waited for a reply and never heard an answer. I said “not blue”. I have never seen anyone with blue eyes look good with blue eye shadow. In many ways I think it makes people look “trashy”. She chose a purple eye shadow that I thought looked great with the dress.
Once that was done it was time to show the class a more dramatic look. She made herself up with a “smoky eye” look. She gave us some tips on how to lengthen lashes with mascara and how to be more “dramatic” with the eyeliner and eye shadow. I thought she looked pretty good at dinner that evening. The makeup went well with the corset she was wearing.
I had wandered off to hospitality to assist again that evening. I had told them I would be attending a seminar that afternoon and would be up to help after the seminar. Pretty much everything was under control. I sat back and relaxed. A few people had commented on the makeup, all had positive to say about it.
We chased people out shortly before dinner. We checked the stock of alcohol and snacks for the next day. Wiped everything down and made sure the room was presentable again. We then went of to dinner, which again was there was not much to talk about.
After dinner we had a DJ for entertainment. The DJ was the nail tech that provided me with a manicure and pedicure. She was good. There was even a bit of Karaoke that evening.
This year we had stayed for the evening entertainment longer. By the time we got out my bride was sleeping well. The makeup artist and I sat and chatted for a while over a glass of wine. It was Friday and the event would wind up the next day. Where had the time gone? Didn’t we just get here? It was day four, like last year it was going too quick. I headed off to bed to get some beauty sleep; I was exhausted and “tipsy”.

Friday part I

The “Makeup Artist” had a 10:30 seminar. “Diva Fashion I”, I think it should be “Diva Fashion 101” I will have to talk to her about that. I had been up late the night before and it takes me a while to “put on my face”. I was smart enough to request a wake up call from the hotel.
I got up showered and shaved. I need that close shave as Tonya. I did makeup and dressed in a red paisley print that I “stole” from a Bargain Nook in Spring Green, WI. The skirt cost me $4.00 and it fits well. Normally, there is a problem with clothing at the Bargain Nook, this skirt is pristine. It could be bad tags, missing buttons, stain, or any number of things that prevents the item from being sold retail. They get much of the merchandise from Lands End, which is headquartered right down the street in Dodgeville, WI.
This skirt is perfect, like new. I paired it with a white button up blouse. Out the door and off to the coffee shop. I was thinking that the seminar had already started and was surprised when I saw the presenter. I escorted her to the seminar and she had trouble with the projector again. My thanks go out to the Be-All Programming Staff, I was not thinking clearly and Christine was a bit quicker than I and we got my friend going.
On the way to the seminar we talked. She had asked over a month ago during a Facebook chat if she could “borrow my face” for “Diva Fashion II” (which should be 102 … I really need to speak to her about this). I confirmed she still wanted me to be her “dummy” for makeup application. I agreed to show up at the seminar without any makeup. The idea was scary, walking through the hotel in a dress and no makeup. What am I crazy? She commented “so what, I do it all the time”. I had to remind her there were subtle differences between us.
Once she was going I had to get out of there. I would have slept through the seminar. I went back to the Coffee Shop chatted with her sister for a while and joined some friends in the atrium.
I had a nice conversation with a friend from CGS. In fact, the first time I went out dressed without a wig she is the one who called me “Bitch”. It was in jest and I laughed when she said it. She was jealous of the fact that I could allow my hair to grow long enough to go out en-femme. She could not due to a receding hairline.
We had another bland lunch. I had the chance to sit with some interesting people. The speakers at lunch were not the most interesting but I did stay around and listen to the presentation.

Thursday

I selected a brown skirt and black print blouse for the day. It was the first time I wore the two together. I thought it would be a great outfit. Once I had it on I thought it did not think the skirt and blouse went together. I had commented to someone on that and she replied “I think you are right, but you are making it work”. That was very kind of her.
The seminars would start today. Nothing had my attention. I would be attending two seminars this year. The “makeup artist” was doing “Diva fashion” again this year. The one session was not enough last year so she would be doing two this year. Hers were not until Friday. I was just hanging out chatting with friends.
We had a lunch, the pork was alright. A bit over cooked (that is almost to be expected for a crowd that size) and some sort of barley. The vegetables were very good. Those were not over cooked, still had a bit of crunch and vitamins in there.
After lunch I was not feeling the best. I had gone to chat with Taylor. When I got over there I started feeling light headed. It was strange (this has happened to me a couple of times recently I will have to mention it to my physician next time I have a physical). I went back to the room to lie down. About an hour later I felt much better.
I took a shower and felt like “a million bucks”. I dressed in the same out fit I wore earlier and wandered up to hospitality. I had apologized for not being up earlier and explained why. The concern was how I felt now; I told them I was much better and would let them know if I had any problems later I then coordinated my plans for the evening.
There would be a trip to a nightclub, like last year, again tonight. I went last year and the band was extremely loud and that is not my personality type, I am more of a “Jimmy Buffet” personality. Last year we went to see Barely Standing. The group has since split up; Stevie Conlon started a new band TNT. I opted not to go to the night club after I heard about the AC/DC tribute.
My friend that went into Chicago on Tuesday wanted to attend the nightclub. I told her to go and I was remaining to take care of Hospitality. I wanted to get something to eat so I attended the “first timers’ dinner”. I had the chance to meet some great people there, many of which had been to a previous Be-All. It was nice to calm the nerves of a few new people. We were in the hotel restaurant but a few were still scared.
After dinner I changed into my nightclub outfit. Purple dress and leggings, I hated how it looked. Good thing I packed the dress from last year and my black tights (just in case). I was afraid that would happen. I just have not figured out how to wear that purple mini-dress. It needs something but I am not sure what yet.I was off to Hospitality. I sent my friend to the nightclub. I ran my tail off that night. Most of the volunteers had gone to the nightclub. That was fine by me. I would rather be busy that just walking around with a drink in my hand. That night we had trouble getting people out of the suite. I was surprised we were so busy; I guess there were a lot of people like me that did not wish to attend the nightclub. Either that or they wanted a few cocktails before heading over to the nightclub.
I was up a little later than previous nights. My plan was to hit the sack after closing. I did not feel like sleeping though. I had “liberated” a drink before departing Hospitality. When that was finished I decided on one more so I went to the hotel Lounge for a drink. Expensive is all I can say, I have only paid prices like that in England, and that was for a 20 ounce Royal pint not a 12 ounce beer. After finishing that one I hit the sack, I had to get up “early” on Friday.

Wednesday
I woke Wednesday morning. Showered, shaved, and did makeup. I wore a white skirt and blue blouse. I wandered over to the Coffee Shop. I chatted briefly with friends before they departed for the city. I then sat and started working on a crossword; that morning there was a USA Today waiting outside my room. Someone had commented you came here to do a cross word; to which I replied “yes”. What else could I say?
A little while later, Deja and I wandered through the vendors. I purchased a new bracelet; there is a Be All charm on it. Thank you Transformations specifically the owner Rori. I love the bracelet and wore it for the remainder of the conference.
Deja and I had a smoke and chatted before I returned to my room. I changed into the pink skirt I wore for the drive down. I could not wear that white one with what I would be doing. The skirt and blouse did not go so well together but I did not want to wear the white one. We got the suite set up. We made sure people felt welcome. I chatted with the bar tender briefly. She was a “hoot”. Also, she made a great Margarita.
I made arrangements to make sure it was safe to wander off to the pool party. I changed into a purple one piece. I put on a cover up and grabbed a jacket. It was going to be a bit chilly. I went to the pool and started chatting with people I knew. I had my eyes open for people just sitting alone. At the party last year someone found me. I was looking for friends that I knew and she invited me to her table. Turns out she had the same common friends I just had not met her at CGS yet. I would have hated to see a first timer there, not knowing anybody, just sitting there because she was alone.
The party was to have a Mexican theme. A “Mariachi” group had been booked for the event. They never showed. I heard a few comments about the fact there was no entertainment. When I informed these folks of the fact of the no show they seemed to be understanding. I know one of the Co Chairs fairly well, she and I spoke briefly about the screw up. I can assure you she had nothing nice to say about the group she booked for the gig.
We allegedly had a Mexican themed lunch. Chicken breast, avocado, rice, and a few other things. I say allegedly because I like Mexican food and was not the least bit impressed with the meal. I eat grilled habanera peppers with my next door neighbor. The rest of the family (his and mine) thinks we are crazy; all of his family is from Mexico. When catering to a crowd of 150 I can understand limiting the spice, it would have been nice to have a salsa on the side though.
I went back to the room and changed back into the white skirt and blue blouse. When I went outside for a smoke I almost had a “Marilyn Monroe moment”. The wind had picked up, good thing there is a privacy shield on that skirt! I would have been “exposing” my undies otherwise.
Back to hospitality and making sure people had something to snack on and making sure the room was tidy. There were several people there and I did not have much to do because of all the help. At the end of the evening I help chase people out and with the final clean up. I then headed off to bed.

Tuesday part II
The drive was uneventful and we made great time getting to the hotel. We registered with Be All then with the hotel. We had our badges for the conference and we each had our room keys. For Chris that ment a key for the Spa, Coffee Shop, and her room.
Now it was time for the “fun” to begin. We had gone back out to start unloading the trailer. As the back of the trailer was opened a car was driving by. I heard how I was “going to hell” and a quote from Deuteronomy. I just was not thinking fast enough or I would have replied with “god bless your heart. What ever happened to that whole love thy neighbor thing?” In stead I remained calm and cool and focused on the work that we needed to do. On Sunday I had asked Chris if she heard that, she did not and was proud of how I handled it. I do wish I had the chance to ask the question though.
We unpacked the trailer and brought everything to the Coffee Shop (no wonder why I like these folks) or the Mary Kay suite. The suite had been renamed but the sign from last year was being used again. Once everything had been unloaded I asked if there was anything I could do to assist. I was pretty much done, they had to set up the suite; getting the stuff to the room was the challenge.
The “Makeup Artist”, her sister, and the nail tech were all there as well. Hugs were exchanged. I had also made arrangements to get my nails done. It would be later that afternoon that I would have that done.
Last year I had a problem with allergies, my eyes had turned red one day. I had been down there for a couple of hours and my eyes were already red. I do not know if it is something in the hotel or if it outside. I seemed to do better outside.
It was about 80 degrees outside and I was sweating. The blouse I was wearing was “trashed”, it needed to be washed – it was covered in makeup. It was soaking wet from sweat from the collar to the nipple line it looked like I had been in the pool. Funny part about that is my “girls” don’t sweat, I use silicon inserts – how was I wet to the nipple line?
I showered again and redid makeup. I opted for the “emergency” outfit. I had planned an extra outfit again this year “just in case”. I hated going to that so early but I had little choice in the matter. I wore black leggings and a tunic I picked up in England. I then ran up to Hospitality.

This year I volunteered in Hospitality. It was Tuesday and there is nothing to do but Hospitality. Events would be starting on Wednesday. I was not needed, so I ran back down to get my nails done. That is another part of the reason why I wore the outfit I did. When it came time for the pedicure all I had to do was remove my shoes and I was ready for a soak. While my nails were being done someone had “popped” in and commented about me putting her to work already. I shot back “I brought the damn chair in here and she is going to use it”.
I was set for the remainder of the Be All. I allowed my nails to dry. I went back to my room for a while. I worked on a crossword and a karuko (cross sums) from my local news paper. I was “mostly dry” but still wished to wait a while before going up to Hospitality. After a while, I put on open toe sandals and wandered back to Hospitality. I chatted with friends. I was asked to open the suite the next day. We were scheduled for 1:00 and I would arrive at Noon to prepare the veggie tray and such. This allowed some friends to go to an off site event in Chicago.
I had asked to assist last year and was not permitted. First timers “enjoy the experience” and are not permitted to “work”. I finally had the chance to do something for the community. I wanted to give back. All of these people had done so much for me; even if it was just words of comfort, advice, or complements. I wanted to reach out and help my “sisters”. I finally had the chance to do so.
We closed at 11:00 I helped remove the snacks from the room and refrigerate what needed and covered everything else. Then I helped “chase” people out of the room so we could get some rest before we started again tomorrow.
I had stepped out front for a smoke. Taylor! I knew she was there but I had not seen her. She was in “boy mode” but I never did learn “his” name. It was nice to catch up again. I had run into Deja earlier in the evening. Two wonderful people, I was glad to be in their company again.
